Step into the spotlight for this hands-on performance course, where we'll help you develop your stage and screen presence and learn essential techniques and core skills.  

Focused sessions on movement, acting and voice will refine your skills, build your confidence, and equip you with knowledge to take your creativity to the next level.   

Working in our professional-standard studios at the Academy of Music and Theatre Arts, you’ll gain an insight into the fundamental principles of making performance work in both live and recorded settings, and experience what studying in our amazing facilities at Falmouth is like. 

Tuition fees per individual: £99

Course details

Jump into the world of performance in this dynamic and exciting one-day course, designed for 14–17-year-olds eager to explore the key elements of acting, movement and voice. Whether on stage or in front of the camera, you’ll gain hands-on experience of what’s involved to bring a performance to life – whether that’s in a live or a recorded setting. 

Through engaging practical exercises, you'll be introduced to the fundamentals of live and recorded performance, learning essential techniques to create compelling work in both settings. With focused sessions on voice, movement and acting, you'll develop core skills that build confidence and stage presence. 

Working in a supportive and inspiring environment in our professional-standard studio facilities, by the end of the day you’ll have a strong foundation in both live and recorded performance, equipping you with the skills to take your creativity further. 

On this course, you will be introduced to the foundational principles and techniques of:  

  • Making live performance   
  • Making recorded performance   
  • Effective movement work 

This course is based in our incredible facilities at the Academy of Music and Theatre Arts, on our Penryn campus.  

You’ll be taught by our experienced Falmouth University staff. All staff teaching this course are DBS cleared and have undergone our mandatory safeguarding training. Students will be supervised through the day including break times. 

The course includes refreshments, lunch and all materials you’ll need for the day. 

This is an outline of timings to expect for the course.  The day includes 5 hours of taught workshops, and time to socialise with fellow students during supervised breaks. 

9am - 9.30am: Arrival, welcome and sign-in 

9.45am: Groups will be taken to workshop locations (up to a 10-min walk across campus) 

10am – 12.30pm: Morning workshops 

12.30pm: Lunch break 

1.15 – 3.45pm: Afternoon workshops 

3.45pm: Groups will be collected from workshop locations 

4pm: Close, sign-out and collection 

Workshops on this course will cover the following topics:  

​Theatre making  

​An exploration of games and processes for the creation of live theatre work. 

​Voice 

​A gentle introduction to the basics of voice work for live and/or recorded work.  

​Movement  

An exploration of the basic principles and techniques of movement work for live and recorded performance. 

​Acting for the camera  

An introduction to acting in front of a camera, for recorded performance. Tips and techniques that will boost your confidence! 

Staff

This 1 day course is run by experienced Falmouth University staff from our Academy of Music and Theatre Arts team. All staff teaching this course have enhanced DBS clearance and have undergone our mandatory safeguarding training. Students will be supervised through the day including break times. 

How you'll learn

This is a creative, practical theatre arts course where you’ll learn by doing.  We’ll be discussing, exploring, and trying out new techniques in a supportive environment. Expect to be moving and acting through the day as we dive into each area in both live and recorded performance contexts. 

 

Who is this course for  

This course is for 14 – 17 year olds and is suitable for all experience levels. It has been designed for teenagers who are interested in theatre arts and who would like to experience the basic principles and techniques that are needed for a live and a recorded performance in a studio; including voice and movement work. 

Expect to get hands-on and creative in this engaging and practical course. This is a chance to broaden your experience of live and recorded performance, whilst having fun in a supportive and supervised environment. This one-day course is structured with 5 full hours of teaching, with breaks for lunch and refreshments. 

Workshops are led by our experienced teaching staff at Falmouth, with all staff DBS checked. The day is designed to give you a taste of what it’s like to study at Falmouth University, with all workshops based on campus in our fantastic teaching facilities.  

Please wear clothes that you can move in, like tracksuits or leggings; and please tie long hair back. 

You may wish to bring a reusable water bottle with you, and anything else you need to feel comfortable through the day. 

Please note: we advise that phones or other personal possessions are not brought to the course, any possessions brought with you are your responsibility and Falmouth University will not be liable for any loss or damage.  

All materials you will need are included in the course fee, together with refreshments and lunch (all dietary requirements catered for).

This course is taught in our specialised studio facilities at our Academy of Music and Theatre Arts on our Penryn campus.

We will provide further information in your course joining email after your place has been confirmed. 

​​You will leave with a certificate of completion, available when you finish the day and sign out. 

This course is for 14 – 17 year olds only, and is suitable for all experience levels with no pre-requisite knowledge required.  

A parent or guardian must sign 14 and 15 year olds in and out, and be present for drop off and pick up.  If 16 and 17 year olds wish to sign themselves in and out then we will require written consent emailed to shortcourses@falmouth.ac.uk in advance of the course.  

Drop off is from 9am – 9.30am, pick up is at 4pm.

​​Once you have booked your place you’ll be sent a participant form for further information. You can tell us about any dietary, medical, or access requirements that we need to know about on this form and you’ll also be asked to confirm that you agree to our code of conduct for under 18s.
