Launchpad Futures Internships Fuel Innovation in Gaming
20 December 2024
Through the Launchpad Futures internship programme, four talented students from Falmouth University’s Games Academy have joined forces with a small business Spysquad HQ to develop a groundbreaking 2D digital game. This innovative project aims to support the personal development and mental health of young people, including those diagnosed with Autism, and ADHD.
The game is designed as an engaging platform to foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and resilience. It promotes awareness of self and others and provides fun, educational activities, covertly disguised in stories and puzzles. By merging entertainment and education with purpose, the project highlights the transformative potential of gaming as a tool for positive social impact.
Supporting this exciting venture is a local web and app consultant from Pendigital, who brings valuable expertise to the project’s development. The collaborative effort represents a meaningful step toward addressing mental health challenges through combining innovative and accessible digital and analogue solutions.
The team at Spysquad HQ, along with the Games Academy interns, are working tirelessly to deliver the game in time for its anticipated launch at the Tech Cornwall Festival on February 15, 2025. This milestone event will spotlight Cornwall’s vibrant tech and creative industries, providing an ideal platform to showcase the game and its mission.
The project underscores the importance of internships in bridging education and industry while addressing critical societal needs. It also highlights Cornwall’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and meaningful technological advancements.
By empowering young people through interactive gameplay, this initiative not only represents a leap forward in game design but also demonstrates the profound impact of purpose-driven technology on mental health and well-being.
