Supporting the likes of Amazon Prime Video and the English Premiere League to make, manage and monetise live interactive shows.
Tech company, Codices, was established as part of Launchpad in 2017. It develops tools for online broadcasters to easily make, manage and monetise live interactive gameshows.
The startup has wowed streaming giants and entertainment platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus and the English Premier League with its live streaming and interactive entertainment tool, Quiz Kit. Currently, Quiz Kit has 4 million active users, and one out of every 20 active Twitch channels has now used the tool.
Codices have successfully raised a total of £1.4m, won numerous awards for their innovative technology, scaled up the team in late 2021 and in February 2022 saw their value increase to £8.7m.
In Spring 2023 they released their brand-new gameshow platform, Moar, to facilitate the creation and supply of mass participation shows. The shows are hitting record live viewing figures and achieve above industry average retention rates. Currently raising £600k to accelerate Moar's growth.
This female-founded startup is revolutionising how universities capture and measure their knowledge exchange activities.
Knowledge exchange (KE) is an integral aspect of higher education. However, reporting on KE is currently a complicated and fragmented process that leads many organisations to under-report the impact of their partnerships with businesses, the public, third sectors and local communities.
KEVRI simplifies this process by making automatic connections between the KE activity and the various frameworks, saving KE practitioners and academic staff time, and allowing them to maximise the impact of their activities.
Since launching in summer 2022, founders Corin Mynett, Emily Devonald and Natalie Campion have already seen early success. They’ve secured their first five customers, won the Times Higher Education (THE) inaugural edtech startup competition and were shortlisted for a Startups National Series Award in 2022.
Amturi’s rapid 3D visualisation solution has already caught the interest of Rolls Royce, Disney and Ravensbourne.
Founded by Michael Calver, Amutri is developing the first product to market that delivers rapid 3D visualisation for designers and architects.
The Amutri solution lowers the entry point to 3D visualisation through an automated, cost-effective and easy to adopt software product, enabling more people to benefit from the technology.
Amutri has been awarded a IUK Smart Grant worth c.£0.5m and is currently raising further investment of £600k at £3.4m valuation. The team is also busy onboarding the first cohort of 300 early adopters and beyond Rolls Royce, Disney and Ravensbourne, they have received interest from Cranfield University and BAE Systems.
Established in December 2015, Hertzian specialises in designing and developing software that collates online customer feedback data. This information is then analysed by bespoke software systems and presented to customers in a user friendly, accessible format. Hertzian’s first major product innovation was the design and development of the data aggregation tool ‘Player XP’. This service allows mobile games developers to review game player feedback and includes its own Machine Learning technology - a type of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that provides computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed to complete a specific action.
Today, Hertzian is a leading UK AI company that helps to identify ‘pain points’ for their customers, enabling their clients to discover new purchasing motivations and respond intelligently to customer queries and complaints.
GoCollaborate is giving communities the chance to shape the development of their local area.
The team has been working with strategic partner Cornwall Council to develop their platform and successfully trialled their MVP in 2021.
The platform builds on traditional consultation methods to make the engagement process more effective, while saving time and resources. It can be used for multiple different stages of a consultation process – from initial data-gathering to generating reports – and provides an easy overview of data, so that findings and decisions can be fed back to communities.
In late 2022, GoCollaborate secured £120,000 equity investment from the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Investment Fund (CIOSIF), as part of a larger £240,000 funding round. The round was led by the FSE Group, the appointed fund manager for CIOSIF, and included several private angel investors, Falmouth University and Coastline Housing. The funding will be used to develop additional features to the application, obtain national presence and a growing market share, and recruit an in-house team.
Constructiv is harnessing technology to transform recruitment in the construction industry. Through the creation of a community-led staffing platform, the company aims to improve the working environment of the 1 million tradespeople who work in the UK.
The development of this product is all about rebuilding trust within the construction recruitment process by embedding accountability and transparency. The service makes it easier for construction workers to find great job opportunities locally and showcase their skills and qualifications with an online profile.
Constructiv has been operating on a small-scale basis, helping hundreds of people find great work opportunities in Cornwall and Devon. In the background, the team has been developing an industry-leading staffing platform, which is due to launch in late 2023.
Knights of Borria is a games studio founded by three Falmouth graduates with a shared passion for creating soulful games.
For their final year project, they created Leximan. The game was initially launched as a free downloadable demo on a popular independent games platform, and rapidly became a highly downloaded and played demo, with an established loyal fan base.
Following success of the demo, Launchpad provided initial support for the team to found their company and prepare for pitching to publishers for potential investment. From this, the team secured an impressive publishing deal with Marvelous Europe which has funded the development of the game from initial concept through to full launch.
Studio 316 is a work-for-hire studio formed by a team of Games Academy students in early September 2020, during their final year of study. Utilising the team's broad range of skills, they work as a collective to bring their own ideas to life as well as offering a range of technical services including:
- Full lifecycle game development Rapid prototyping
- Overflow work
- Multiplayer
Since inception, Studio 316 has grown steadily, providing valuable work experience and income to their fellow students, as well as establishing a loyal customer base both within existing game studios and businesses looking to leverage game technology and associated skills. They have six full-time employees and a bank of 30 skilled industry temps.
While developing their final year project at university, the team behind Ludophoria noticed that a form of gaming where players work with one another to achieve a common goal was not being exploited to its full market potential. The successful games in this area had clearly defined features, game design and narrative. However, by adding co-operative online multiplayer technology, they felt that they could appeal to a large client base.
With the support of Launchpad, the team rapidly created a proof of concept and undertook extensive useability testing to ensure they had successfully interpreted the market opportunity. The games studio is now preparing to self- publish its game on Microsoft XBox and PC and have interest from Microsoft's GamePass Program.
