Course details

This is a one-day introduction to Risograph printing designed to appeal to complete beginners, but also suitable for those with prior knowledge of Risograph printing who want to improve their skills.

Based in our lovely, light, accessible studio space at the Fashion and Textiles Institute, this course is run by Freya Dorgan, a Senior Technician who specialises in print and colour. Freya is also a commercial illustrator creating fun and colourful imagery, who uses Risograph within her own practice to create comics, zines, prints and stickers.

You’ll learn about the whole Risograph print technique, starting with how to design and produce artwork suitable for Risograph printing, using a variety of art materials. Bring imagery that you’d like to work from for inspiration, or use examples from Freya to get a sense of what is achievable.

Once you have settled on your artwork, Freya will guide you through printing your final designs. Along with enough time to experiment and play, this course includes the production of a set of 10 A4 two-colour prints and a set of stickers with your own unique designs. You’ll leave with the knowledge to be able to do Risograph printing independently.

All materials you’ll need are included, along with tea/coffee. Please bring a packed lunch with you.

On this course, you will:

  • Learn about Risograph print techniques and processes, from how to experiment with producing artwork through to printing your finished designs.
  • Draw inspiration from imagery you have brought along to the course or work with design ideas from Freya.
  • Learn to create artwork suitable for Risograph printing by hand using a variety of materials and techniques.
  • Develop the knowledge to be able to create your own Risograph prints independently after the course.
  • Leave with a final series of ten 2-colour prints and a set of stickers that you have created during the day.
