Why I chose to study Creative Writing online

Hi, my name is David and I’m currently studying an online degree in Creative Writing.
I’m studying part time with Falmouth and a big draw was that it was an accelerated degree, meaning I would be able to work part time, study part time and graduate in three years, and with two young children, relocating to Falmouth just wasn’t feasible.
However, online learning has offered so many benefits. Not only is it more financially manageable, but it also allows me to stay close to my support network of family and friends. The best thing about studying online for me, is the flexibility it gives me. You can work at your own pace, allowing you to balance your studies with work, or family and friends. And you can also study anywhere with an internet connection.
I’ve found you never feel alone.
What it also does is it encourages self-discipline and time management; you oversee when you study, when you watch a lecture, when you do the work. This doesn’t always come straight away but at Falmouth there is a network within your study groups, with fellow students and tutors, to help and support with that. I’ve found you never feel alone. The study groups I find are one of the most important resources for online study.
You also get to meet and network with people you may not necessarily have got the chance to meet in person. Having virtual classrooms, you meet people from all over the world, which is very enriching.
What I would say is, though the distance may feel physical, the connections with tutors and peers are very much real; you still feel a part of a community, which you can lean on and be part of as much as you need.
