The Hilton Christmas Illustrator
05 December 2019
Rupert Skelton has gone from strength to strength since graduating from Illustration this summer.
His journey started with the D&AD New Blood exhibition, where his work was picked up by the well-renowned online magazine platform Creative Review. He was named as one of two graduates from Falmouth on the ‘Gradwatch 2019’ list, which is a spotlight on fresh art and design graduates. Soon after this article was written he managed to pull in a big commission from Hilton Hotels for their Christmas campaign, where he put together a 45 second animation and some illustrations for their press adverts in New York.
Rupert has a very unique art style, which takes inspiration from America. He said: “Whenever I draw a personal project it is always, for some reason, set in America somewhere like downtown LA or New York. I just love American culture. I’m also heavily inspired by the 80s and the look of the tech back then.”
Rupert told us how it felt to get such a big client just after graduating: “I remember when I got the email, I was half asleep scrolling through my phone on the sofa and then saw the message from Hilton with the proposed commission. You should have seen me! I was literally jumping up and down. I told my mum and she had tears in her eyes. A moment I won’t forget for sure.”
Rupert has recently been signed by London-based advertising agency, BBH, within their new illustration agency. He also has a lot of exciting projects coming up - so watch this space!
