In addition to the undergraduate success, Falmouth also features in the global postgraduate rankings, placed at number 11 for postgraduate game design study globally - up from 14th in 2024 - and now ranks second outside the United States.
The annual ranking, produced by education services company The Princeton Review, is based on a survey of 150 institutions offering game design programmes worldwide. Survey data is collected across four key areas: academic, faculty, technology and career prospects.
Falmouth’s Games Academy is now ranked as the second-best place to study an undergraduate degree in game design outside of the United States, up from third place last year. It remains the highest-ranked English institution on the list.
Dr Douglas Brown, Dean of the Faculty of Screen, Technology & Performance, said:
Climbing the world rankings is a brilliant recognition of the creativity, technical skill and collaborative spirit that define our students and staff. It’s a proud moment for the department and a reflection of the hard work we’ve all put into pushing the boundaries of what games education can be.
Since the rankings were established in 2010, The Princeton Review has worked closely with a national advisory board to refine its survey and methodology. The panel includes academics from respected game design schools and professionals from leading video game companies.
Speaking previously, Rob Franek, The Princeton Review's Editor-in-Chief, said: "We highly recommend Falmouth University as well as the other outstanding schools on our lists to students considering a career in the exciting field of game design. Their faculties are superb. Their facilities are state-of-the-art, and their alumni include many of the industry’s most successful game designers, developers and entrepreneurs."
At Falmouth University’s Games Academy, students design and build real games and digital experiences from day one. Working in multidisciplinary teams, they mirror the fast-paced, collaborative environment of professional game development studios.
The Games Academy is home to one of the largest dedicated game development studio spaces of any UK university. Our open-plan space features 300 industry-standard development desks, designed to reflect the layout and culture of an indie game studio. It’s a creative, collaborative environment where students from different disciplines come together to produce original, innovative work.
