Having studied photography at Falmouth for both his undergraduate degree and his master’s, Mohammad has since turned his eye for capturing stories with a camera into a career of award-winning filmmaking and photography from his home in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Since graduating, Mohammad has created the films The Taste of Honey and Forget-Me-Not, which have highlighted the urgent social and environmental narratives in Bangladesh. Both have gained international acclaim, winning awards including Best Documentary at the Terni Film Festival in Italy, and the Social Impact Award by Activists Without Borders.

It isn’t just Mohammad’s filmmaking that has received such high acclaim, his photographic series The Blue Fig has been featured prominently at events including the PhotoVogue Festival in Italy, the Open Doors Gallery in the UK, and the Budapest International Foto Awards.

Reflecting on his time as a student at Falmouth, Mohammad said: “the university provided a nurturing environment that deeply enriched my understanding and skills in visual storytelling. The comprehensive and diverse curriculum, guided by experienced mentors, fostered my creative and technical abilities which truly allowed me to effectively address global issues through photography and filmmaking.”

He added: “The foundation of learning that I built during my time at Falmouth empowered me to tackle significant humanitarian and environmental subjects such as climate change, labour rights, and social justice in my work.”

When asked how his time at Falmouth helped him to achieve such success, Mohammed said: “The rigorous academic training and international exposure at Falmouth were pivotal in achieving these accomplishments. It not only helped me to build storytelling techniques but also instilled a deep sense of ethical responsibility in my creative practice.”

Mohammad now seeks to pursue a PhD and continue to explore innovative visual research methods and tell stories that inspire social change.
