The day I first saw Ocean View was when I arrived in Falmouth to start university. I was already enamoured with the rolling hills and the brightest blue ocean I’d ever seen in England. The fact that I could see both the countryside and the sea from my bedroom window at Ocean View made me so excited for the year I had living there.

While Ocean View wasn’t necessarily my first choice of student accommodation (it was actually my second), I was very glad I ended up there. Not only because I met some of my closest friends while living there, but also because of its prime location, amazing amenities and the night security really helped for peace of mind too!

Moving in

The process of moving into Ocean View was really easy, and what made it so much nicer was that I was able to connect with my future flatmates before I moved in, so that it felt like I knew them already; that made the process so much more comfortable and welcoming. On the day I moved in, it was very smooth. All I had to do was show the reception staff my passport and they showed me to my house and I was able to move my stuff in within about ten minutes of arriving there. We only had a parking space for a certain amount of time so I quickly dragged my parents to Asda for my first big (very helpful and very expensive!) food shop.

My bedroom at Ocean View quickly became something of a sanctuary for me. My flatmates and the surrounding houses consisted of my closest friends, people who I still live with today in my third year, but having my own bedroom gave me space to escape and have the alone time I needed. The soundproof fire-doors meant it was really easy to just switch off from the rest of the world and have some quiet time, because no matter how much I loved my flatmates, my goodness, did I need alone time sometimes!

Amazing facilities

Another great thing about Ocean View was the amenities. The cinema room was such a good place for my friends and I to watch movies. Personally, I never used the gym, but if that's you're thing, having a free gym no more than a two-minute walk away would be so perfect for you. There was also a table tennis table in the reception which made for some funny nights. Ocean View was such a friendly and welcoming place to live, and with these amenities it was so easy to meet people in different houses.

My favourite thing about Ocean View was the fact that we had an outside garden space. The backdoor of my house led out onto a small grass area, and my friends and I spent a lot of time out there. It was a lovely space to meet new people from other flats around Ocean View, and in the summer, we were able to open the sliding doors of our flats and cook, eat and have fun.

Great location

Ocean View is right next to the Falmouth Docks train station so it was really convenient to get to both the Falmouth and Penryn campuses. While it was only a very short walk to Falmouth Campus, around ten minutes or so, it was also a very short train journey to Penryn Campus, and fairly cheap too. This was very handy in terms of not having to walk too far to get to the train station, but also for things like a day out in Truro, which was relatively short and cheap to go to.

Ocean View is also situated at the foot of Pendennis Hill, so it was in a beautiful location to go for a walk. There were many lovely coastal walks a short distance from Ocean View, and walking to Pendennis Castle for the sunset was a favourite pastime of mine. Of course, the beach was very close too - a quick cut-through via the Falmouth Hotel grounds, and you were there! This led to many beach barbeques and nighttime walks in the fresh air, something I never thought I’d experience, having moved here from London.

Looking back, Ocean View was a great place to live in my first year; from the friends I made to the super helpful reception staff, the location, and the spectacular view of Falmouth harbour. I loved staying at Ocean View and would recommend it to anyone who wants to wake up to a beautiful sunrise and fall asleep to a sunset over the harbour. Lovely!
