Learning online - the future of university study?
Working online is gradually becoming a staple in these crazy times. It can be a little daunting, especially if you've already got a lot on your plate at home. As a person helping to take care of a sibling, here is my online learning experience:
The best thing about learning online is how flexible it is. You can pick and choose how and when you engage with the content of your course. Whether you have a busy day, or an empty schedule, online working can be made to fit around you. The course materials and activities can be accessed from any computer or online device you may have, and lectures and seminars can be listened to again and again. This can be extremely helpful when you have got responsibilities at home such as taking care of a loved one as you can easily revisit any areas of a lecture or seminar you may have missed.
The best thing about learning online is how flexible it is.
Since the lockdowns began, I have actually been benefitting from my online learning. Of course, there are a lot more distractions at home, but the ability to go over, re-read and relisten to any content from my course at any time I want has kept me on track and completing assignments.
From my perspective, the online learning experience can be made to be just as good as a traditional learning experience. As long as you have some quiet time to sit down and study, you can easily learn as much as you would in a dedicated work environment.
However, there is something to keep in mind. Balance. Working without a set timetables can lead to a teetering work life balance which could lead to a burn out. When working online, make sure you allocate yourself some time to relax and take a break from your responsibilities. This will not only improve your state of mind, but the work you create.
In summary, the online working experience can be a great one if you have got a lot on your plate. It can be tailored around your schedule and needs, whenever you need. But be careful and be kind to yourself. You can only do so much in a day.
