Tom Skinner
Lecturer
Tom works with photography and film through image-making, curation, writing and teaching. He graduated with a first-class degree in Photography from University of the Arts London, and a master’s degree with distinction in Visual Anthropology from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Having trained in secondary education, Tom is also a qualified teacher and holds a PGCE from Bath Spa University.
His personal work explores relationships between identity and place, interweaving ideas around tradition, belonging and change. Tom’s research continues to focus on visual anthropological methodology, using experimental and ethnographic filmmaking and multi-modal anthropology, including working with sound.
He is also the founder of Unveil’d, a platform that champions contemporary photography. He has led the organisation since 2014, and has worked with internationally recognised and emerging photographers through an ongoing programme of festivals, exhibitions, talks and workshops. He also launched the Unveil'd Photobook Award in 2015.
