Dr Kat Flint-Nicol
Senior Lecturer, Film & Television
Kat is a Lecturer in Film & Television and joined Falmouth in the summer of 2023, having taught at Queen's University Belfast previously. She completed her PhD on the aesthetics of symbolic violence of class in contemporary British cinema at The University of Kent in 2019. She has taught on a wide variety of modules from introductory film modules to more specialist topics such as, British Cinema, Sound & Film, and early Hollywood cinema.

Research Interests
Research interests and expertise
Kat's primary research interest is class and British cinema, specifically politics and aesthetics, production cultures, performance and casting. She is interested in supervising PhD projects on areas of class related topics in British cinema including, regional film policy and practice, landscape and sound in British film.
Areas of teaching
Kat currently convenes 1st Yr Film BA (Sons) modules, Cultural Contexts and Industrial Contexts. She also teaches on Cinema of Experience and supervises Film BA dissertations.

Current PhD students are working on diverse research projects including, the role of AI in affective experiences of cinema spectatorship and, constructions of Kernow and Calabria in the works of Mark Jenkin and Michelangelo Frammartino.

Kat is a member of BAFTSS SIG Grps; British Cinema, Performance & Stardom, and is a founding member of BAFTSS Archives & Archival Methods. She also reviews and contributes to the Journal of Class & Culture.
