Aspiring action film makers can now apply to the first ever master's dedicated to the genre thanks to a collaboration between Falmouth University and UK film studio, Action Xtreme.

MA Feature Filmmaking offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the adrenaline-fuelled world of action cinema, going beyond the theory as they work on the production of a full length feature film which will be distributed globally.

The course was created by Falmouth University’s Head of the School of Film & Television, Dr. Kingsley Marshall, in collaboration with Action Xtreme CEO Chee Keong Cheung and Talent Development Director, Noel Goodwin.

Kingsley said: “This course is a natural extension of over a decade of feature film production at Falmouth. By collaborating with Action Xtreme, we’re offering an innovative program that aligns with our values of inclusion and diversity, creating real opportunities for emerging talent."

Chee added: “This course goes beyond traditional education, offering students the chance to engage with the filmmaking process, and graduate with a completed feature film. It’s a truly exciting, hands-on approach to learning, and I look forward to seeing the next generation of filmmakers thrive.”

The collaboration provides students with the chance to learn within the context of a live production environment, gaining unparalleled practical experience learning from and working with seasoned professionals.

Action Xtreme’s commitment to nurturing new talent is woven into the course. Chee, an award-winning filmmaker, also brings 20 years of experience and a passion for talent development. Students will benefit from his deep insights, along with guidance from other industry leaders who have collaborated with icons such as Richard Dreyfuss and Ian McKellen.

Falmouth University has also produced a slate of films through the Sound/Image Cinema Lab, our in-house production centre, including Enys Men (2023), A Year in a Field (2023), Long Way Back (2022), Wilderness (2021), Bait (2019), shorts including and The Birdwatcher (2023), Bloom (2023), Mab Hudel (2022), Kestav (2020), Hard Cracked the Wind (2019) and Backwoods (2019).

MA Feature Filmmaking is an invitation to create something extraordinary and to enter the action film industry with a feature film credit, backed by Falmouth’s academic excellence and Action Xtreme’s distribution network.
