Illustration alumni and artist designs Christmas stamps for Isle of Man Post Office
04 December 2023
Rowan Corlett, an artist and BA(Hons) Illustration alumni, has designed and produced a series of Christmas stamps for Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO), focusing on the beauty and wildness of the Island.
Earlier this year, Rowan was commissioned by IOMPO to create the traditional festive stamp collection for 2023, using her surroundings as inspiration to create a series of stamps representing wildlife and wintery scenes across local landmarks. In a homage to the Isle of Man's language and cultural identity, each animal also has their Manx name included, too.
Speaking with IOMPO, Rowan says: “I was absolutely delighted to have been asked to illustrate 2023’s Christmas stamp issue. Creating a set of stamps for the Isle of Man was one of my ultimate goals as an illustrator, so I am over the moon to have achieved this!
“It was an absolute joy to illustrate some of the wonderful places on our little Island, and the beautiful creatures who we share it with. It is so important to celebrate and protect our natural world and I hope this set of stamps reminds people of the beauty around us, as well as giving a sense of cosiness that the festive season brings. I am very grateful to the Isle of Man Post Office for this opportunity.”
About Rowan
Rowan was born and raised on the Isle of Man, and found it a huge creative inspiration growing up. Living on an island surrounded by the sea and the picturesque Manx countryside helped her imagination flourish, and throughout her practice she has focused on the natural world: with many of the subjects being flora and fauna of the island.
Rowan’s illustration style is a mix of traditional and digital image making techniques; and works with gouache, pen, collage and digital paint work to achieve the beautiful final result we see on the stamps.
