Falmouth University announce Honorary Awards 2024

Falmouth University is delighted to introduce the recipients of our 2024 awards, offered in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the creative sector or the University. 

Honorary Fellow 

Sir Michael Morpurgo 

Sir Michael Morpurgo is a celebrated author and storyteller, renowned for his extensive contributions to children’s literature. He has written more than 150 books, including acclaimed titles like War Horse, Private Peaceful, Kensuke’s Kingdom and The Butterfly Lion. Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades and awards and served as the UK Children’s Laureate from 2003 to 2005, underscoring his importance as a passionate advocate for children’s literature. Through his charity, Farms for City Children, Michael and his wife Clare have provided life-changing experiences for more than 100,000 children.

Honorary Master of Arts

Rex Crowle 

Falmouth University graduate Rex Crowle is a video game director, designer and artist. He was named BAFTA’s ‘breakthrough Brit’ in 2013, and the following year won no fewer than three BAFTAs for his work leading a team to create the novel game Tearaway, known for its charming papercraft style. Through his indie games studio Foam Sword, Rex released Knights and Bikes – a game set on a fictional island and inspired by a childhood in Cornwall, which received industry acclaim, garnering glowing reviews and scooping awards. Most recently, he was chosen as art director for the newest entry in the legendary Monkey Island game series, cementing a legacy of bringing innovative, distinctive and heartfelt art and design to the world of video games. 

Honorary Master of Arts 

Troi Lee 

DJ, performer, festival curator and events organiser Troi Lee is revolutionising music experiences for the Deaf community. He is the founder of Deaf Rave, an organisation that provides festivals and music events tailored for the Deaf and hard of hearing community. Rich in visual elements including sign rap, sign songs and visual vernacular performances, these events celebrate and champion Deaf culture. Deaf Rave also conducts workshops and community activities. Covering skills such as DJing, VJing, event management and British Sign Language, they aim to empower Deaf people by providing them with skills and opportunities in the music industry. Troi has taken Deaf culture into the mainstream and as a mentor has inspired countless aspiring DJs and performers.
