Students with caring responsibilities

Student carers are anyone who cares for a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and could not cope without your support. This includes students with parenting responsibilities.

Support available

We recognise how hard it is to balance caring responsibilities for adult or child dependents alongside applying and studying.

Our information, advice and guidance webinar series takes into account the different experiences students with caring responsibilities will have. Our personal statement and portfolio masterclasses offer advice and guidance on how to use your unique experiences throughout the application process. You may also be eligible for our Dependants Bursary towards the cost of studying.

If your caring responsibilities mean you have been away from education for a longer period of time, or have a non-standard educational background, you can apply for our degrees with an Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL).

Students with parenting responsibilities wishing to study on campus can also use our on-site nurseries at each campus.
