Language Courses

Studying in a second language is an amazing achievement but can be challenging no matter how fluent you are. We offer a range of free language courses and tutorials to support our students for whom English is a second language.

English language support

If you’re a student or researcher and English isn’t your first language, there are a range of support services available to help you improve your written and spoken English.

English language courses

Our Languages team runs a programme of free academic English seminars and social English workshops that are free to on-campus and online students and researchers.

If English is not your first language, these weekly online and in-person workshops help to develop advanced writing and language skills for academic study and research. These seminars are open to on-campus and online students.

Online students who have previously attended the academic English seminars can join these weekly sessions. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas and gain feedback on your writing or presenting from an English language tutor.

Final year international students can access support on writing their dissertation, including tips on how to structure and reference their work.

These workshops explore functional, everyday language for living in the UK. A great opportunity to discover new expressions, review grammar and ask any questions. They're also a chance to meet students from across the university.
