In this MA Photography (Online) Masterclass, Georgia Metaxas will explore Photography and Sustainability. This Masterclass will unpack notions related to this important and timely subject whilst considering contemporary photographic practice and introducing you to relevant content in relation to the Sustainable Strategies Module that runs as a part of the Falmouth Online MA Course.
During the Masterclass, we will question what makes a sustainable practice and look at ways that you, as a practitioner, might go about achieving this. We will examine and discuss the challenges faced and look to practitioners whose contemporary methods point to the future, identifying some exciting opportunities to experiment and engage with Photography along the way.
Georgia Metaxas is based in London and is the Module Leader for PHO730 Sustainable Strategies. Her work explores the tension between ‘artistic’ intent and documentary practice, with a particular interest in examining cultural and social rituals through contemporary portraiture. She has exhibited widely in both the United Kingdom and Australia, and has also shown her work in Spain, China, and Germany. Metaxas has undertaken several international residencies, including Fundacion Botin (Spain) and FATHOM15 (UK) and has developed community engagement programs with institutions including Photoworks and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Her work is held in several public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria and the Museum of Australian Photography.
Georgia’s work Mnemosyne Grove has been recently published by Perimeter Editions, 2024.
