A workshop led by drag king and theatre maker Bi-Curious George, exploring what drag can teach us about queering theatre practices.
What is drag? What makes a good cabaret act? What can you discover if you use drag/gender as a starting place? What tools can we use from the world of cabaret to make our theatre practices more inclusive, urgent and exciting?
From lip sync, to parody song, to burlesque to comedy - drag offers us a myriad of tools that we can harness to invigorate and queer our theatre practices. This workshop gives you a chance to explore some of these forms, connect to the deeply socially and politically rooted side of drag, and to have a go at creating your own drag character. There will be room for discussion and questions as well as practical exercises.
Tickets and booking:
- This workshop is available for AMATA students on a first come, first served basis. There are only 12 workshop places available.
