The UK Government has announced that tuition fees for undergraduate home students will increase by £285 for the academic year beginning in September 2025, rising from £9,250 to £9,535 per year. Placement year fees will increase from £1,850 to £1,907.

After careful consideration, the Falmouth University Board of Governors decided that tuition fees for both new and current undergraduate home students, including those on the Integrated Foundation Year*, will rise in line with this change.

International students and those studying online will not be affected.

*As classroom-based courses, Fashion Marketing, Creative Advertising and Marketing Communications Integrated Foundation Year will attract a fee of £5,760 for the first year of the course, rising in to be line with the cost of the fee of the full degree in years 2 – 4 of the programme.

Why have fees increased?

Tuition fees have not risen since 2017, while the costs of delivering a high-quality student experience have significantly increased. Universities across the UK are facing financial pressures, with many expressing concerns about long-term financial stability.

At Falmouth, this additional funding will be reinvested into enhancing the student experience, including improvements to teaching, campus facilities, and support services, all of which directly benefit our campus community.

What does it mean for your student loan?

Student loans will also increase to fully cover the updated fee. While this means you’ll borrow slightly more, you won’t pay anything upfront.

Loan repayments only begin once you’re earning above the current threshold of £25,000 per year.

Have maintenance loans also increased?

Yes, maintenance loans for English students will also rise in recognition of the increasing cost of living.

Maintenance loans are designed to support day-to-day living expenses, such as accommodation, food, and travel. Your eligibility is based on factors like household income and where you live.

This increase means that students who qualify for maintenance loans will have additional financial support for living costs starting next year.

For students from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, maintenance loans are managed through separate systems. At this time, no announcements have been made about increases for these regions. For the most up-to-date information, please refer to the relevant agencies:

Will tuition fees increase in future years?

The UK Government has not yet confirmed how tuition fee levels will be set beyond 2025/26. Tuition fees may increase in future years for both new and continuing students, depending on government decisions. When further details are available, the University will review the changes and communicate them promptly.
