Being a Student Ambassador at Falmouth University has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my academic journey, offering me countless opportunities for personal and professional growth.

I started my journey as a Student Ambassador in my first year at Falmouth University. Whilst the monetary incentive was highly rewarding, the bigger reward came from the opportunities and experiences that came from being an ambassador. The first shift I worked was as at an Open Day and I remember being so nervous! The day itself was daunting, yet I have never met so many incredible people in such a small space of time. All the other ambassadors working were so kind to me and really eased my nerves, especially my senior at the time. Thank you Lowri for being so patient with me!! I finished the Open Day with a newfound confidence and so many friends! The friendship aspect of the ambassador role is one I value the highest. It gave me the opportunity to grow professionally in a supportive and inclusive environment. I took on new roles that I would never have otherwise done, such as the opportunity to step up to being a Senior Ambassador.

The idea of being a leader scared me. I didn’t like the idea of the responsibility on me. However, after almost a year of being a regular ambassador and participating in a huge variety of experiences, all of which I gained invaluable professional skills from including confidence and leadership skills, I then took the chance to step up and take on the role of Senior Ambassador.

This was a significant milestone in my ambassadorial journey. As a Senior Ambassador I was now in charge of all Student Ambassadors within my school, as well as becoming someone who staff members looked upon as highly trustworthy and someone who Student Ambassadors looked up to as a role model. As a senior I now had a larger variety of work opportunities available to me, such as being involved in the recruitment process for the next cohort of ambassadors. As the Senior Ambassadors are a much smaller group of the Student Ambassadors, this is where I formed some of my closest friends and I probably wouldn’t be where I am today without them! I am so happy that I took that chance to push myself out of my comfort zone to become a Senior Ambassador.

Some of my favourite parts of the ambassador role include participating in Open Days and Virtual Events. There's something incredibly fulfilling about sharing my love for Falmouth with potential students. I love to have face to face conversations with prospective students and their families, Each interaction I have has been unique and rewarding. From answering questions about course specifics, to discussing the vibrant social life in Falmouth. These interactions has honed my communication skills and given me a deep sense of satisfaction in knowing that I am helping others.

All of these experiences have helped to massively boost my CV and LinkedIn to enhance my employability not only academically and professionally, but socially as well. Part time jobs within Falmouth itself are often very limited and can often be quite demanding. As a Student Ambassador you choose when you want to work and only choose the opportunities you feel comfortable with. This maximises your flexibility as it means that you can plan your ambassador work around your studies and social life.

Choosing to be a Senior Ambassador was one of the best decisions I made at University, If you have any questions at all regarding Student or Senior Ambassadors, please pop me a message and I would be delighted to talk to you :)
