Rosa Mulraney
Senior Lecturer
Rosa Mulraney is a Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Animation course within the School of Film and Television at Falmouth University. She specialises in feminism and practice-based research, working across short film production, exhibition curation and public engagement. A successful lead applicant on ‘Why Mums Don’t Jump: Our Stories, Our Health’, as featured in Being Human 2024, her project shared recent research findings with the public on the culture of silence surrounding women’s postpartum health. These outputs built on the success of the production and dissemination of the animated short film Why Mums Don’t Jump (2023), which premiered in Los Angeles at La Femme International Film Festival 2023. The film was made as a collaboration between Rosa and her students in partnership with the creator of Why Mums Don’t Jump, podcaster and author Helen Ledwick. Rosa writes for MAI: Feminism and Visual Culture, reflecting on the impact of her work and founded www.mxther.com and an online resource to share research that focuses on filmmaking and censored female narratives.
Prior to working at Falmouth University Rosa worked in the animation and visual effects industry across roles in design, post-production and producing. She has experience managing large scale production of visual effects and graphics for long form broadcast projects, from stylised graphics to photoreal animations. Projects include Inside Nature’s Giants for Channel 4, National Geographic’s Back to the Womb series and Channel Five’s Special Forces Heroes. Also managing She also managed production of 3D Digital content, from virtual environments for Cadbury’s World online to visual effects for the BBC’s online games. IMDB credits include executive producer credits for Why Mums Don’t Jump (2023) and The Art of Animation: Where do ideas come from? (2022). Rosa is also editor of the online resource www.makinganimation.co.uk that reveals the behind-the-scenes process of making animated content.
