Lynn Huggins-Cooper
Online Tutor, Creative Writing BA(Hons) (Online)
I have written everything from picture books and MG series to YA novels and a wide variety of genre fiction for adults under various pen names (long story!). I have also written for children’s TV series and comics; have been a newspaper 'agony aunt' and have written for many digital markets and publications. I've been a features writer for the Times Educational Supplement, and Green Parent Magazine. I've written many non-fiction books including titles of organics, downshifting, parenting, heritage crafts and relationships. Can you tell I have ADHD yet? Although being neurodiverse offers me challenges, it also brings the gifts of hyperfocus and a lively mind!
I have had many roles in my career and all those roads have led to, supplemented and inspired my writing. I've worked as a wildlife warden on a small island with a lighthouse, in a Bail Hostel and at a PRU. I am also a textiles artist. I lectured on the PGCE at Newcastle University whilst studying for my MPhil and loved visiting schools to observe my students on placement. During this time, I wrote many educational and home learning books. I organise SCBWI North-East, and I am the Know-How Editor of their magazine Words and Pictures. I am also the Seasonal Anthologies Editor for Trembling with Fear. I am working with Crystal Lake Publishing, developing their new children’s imprint. I am currently contracted to write a MG series about a young cryptozoologist, an education-through-story horror project, a YA that explores grief and the festivals of the dead, and an adult folk horror. I am also writing chapters for a range of Horror Studies titles.
I started teaching at Falmouth in January 2023 and it seems longer - but in a good way! I have taught on a variety of modules due to my broad portfolio including Post Digital writing, Genres and Disruptive Fictions, Dreaming Up Worlds, Society and Identity, Screen Media, Collaboration and Masterpiece. The BA (Hons) in Creative Writing at Falmouth is massively industry focused and that gives an extra layer of value to our students – we as tutors are working in the industry and can offer an insider’s-eye-view. I love encouraging beginning writers to find and establish their voice – and Falmouth University is a great place to do just that!
