Laura Battersby
Lecturer, Architecture BA(Hons)
Laura is the Year 1 Lead on the BA Architecture course. She is responsible for organising the Year 1 'live' projects, where students work with clients on real-world projects. These collaborations tend to be with community groups and have included local primary schools, the RSPB and Working Woodlands Cornwall. She is an ARB registered Architect and also a member of the AECB (Association of Environmentally Conscious Buildings).
Laura runs her own practice Battersby Edgley Architects alongside her teaching. The practice specialises in sustainable retrofit, heritage and community projects. Laura is an RIBA school’s ambassador and undertakes projects and workshop in schools empowering children and young adults to have a say in their built environment.
Prior to setting up her own practice Laura worked with renowned practices;
Foster and Partners, as well as Glenn Howells Architects and Jamie Fobert Architects. She has over 15 years’ experience in practice and worked on a various projects including, Art Galleries, concert venues, residential master planning and housing, listed buildings, and sensitively building in conservation areas.
Her wide-ranging architectural career brings a wealth of knowledge and connections to the Year 1 studio.
