Helen Perkins
Dive Safety Officer
I graduated from Plymouth College of Art and Design in 2000 where I specialised in fine art landscape photography.
Whilst at PCAD I used underwater 35mm cameras and organised a number of dive trips both UK and abroad to hone my underwater photography skills. With a love of wildlife, diving and photography combined I was hooked. On completion of my course I was offered an exhibition through a fine art photography gallery in Cornwall. After graduating I continued to work with Tristan's Gallery selling my own work, and as their exhibition manager. I curated a number of leading photographers exhibitions including works by Man Ray, Terry O'Neil, Martin Parr as well as several collections of local photographers work.
I started working for Falmouth University on a part time basis in 2005 but progressed to full time when the Marine and Natural History Photography course started. I specialised as the Marine and Natural History underwater camera technician and have been helping students to combine photography and their underwater skills since. After having a family I now work 3 days a week as Dive Safety Officer, and work predominately with Marine and Natural History photography students on their underwater photography modules, personal assignments and assist with any "splash" based photography.
