Giulia Chini
Lecturer, Costume Design for Film & Television BA(Hons)
Giulia graduated in Set Design in Italy (Academy of Arts, Genova) and has a master’s degree in Costume Design for Performance from London College of Fashion.
She started working as costume, set design assistant and costume buyer for theatres such as the Young Vic and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (London), and worked as props maker for Souvenir Scenic Studios. Notable projects include the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremonies, RSC Taming of the Shrew, Louis Vuitton & Marc Jacobs retrospective at the Louvre Museum.
After exploring different creative avenues, she found her true passion in costume construction and has been working as costume maker for films and TV for the last 10 years.
She specialised in costume making for lead characters; credits include Star Wars Andor (Lucasfilm), Doctor Strange (Marvel), Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin (Disney), The Martian, Death on the Nile, and The Great among others.
She gained technical teaching experience at London College of Fashion on the MA Costume Design for Performance and joined Falmouth University in 2022 as lecturer on the BA Costume Design for Film & TV teaching design and construction.
She believes that materials influence the way we think, create, and ultimately design; and likes to incorporate making techniques into the design teaching process.
