This collaborative project will foster an entrepreneurial culture in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (CIoS) using an agile approach from partners in higher education (HE) and further education (FE). By concentrating access to HE/FE and associated research within this project, it serves as an effective means to accelerate research, development, and innovation (RD&I) in CIoS. We will facilitate networking opportunities and foster collaboration between entrepreneurs, local businesses, academic institutions, and government organisations to create a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurship.
We wished to respond to the need to embed inclusive entrepreneurialism in CIoS and create an environment where it can flourish. The project will establish the foundations of entrepreneurialism and crucially investigate the conditions necessary for an entrepreneurial culture to thrive. We would also be identifying barriers to entrepreneurialism, such as socioeconomic factors and vulnerabilities. Through events, consultations, and engagement with local stakeholders, an evidence base of socioeconomic barriers would be developed, along with proposals for addressing them in an entrepreneurial way.
Entrepreneurial Futures is a £5.68m project to inspire innovation and drive economic growth by connecting businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly with the region’s further and higher education institutions through research and development-led activities. It is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The mission of this year-long project aligns neatly with the ambitious reach of the Centre for Blended Realities. Falmouth University’s Centre for Blended Realities is working with our delivery partners University of Exeter, Plymouth University, and Duchy College to facilitate networking opportunities and foster collaboration between entrepreneurs, local businesses, academic institutions, and government organisations to create a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurship within Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. This project will empower individuals and organisations to embrace innovation, adaptability, and collaboration to ultimately drive economic growth and prosperity in our region.
