This Research & Knowledge Exchange Doctoral Project brief summarises our priority areas of research interest under the heading of: Exploring the Salience of Sustainable Development.

We welcome all research degree applications aligned with and in response to this brief.

Project brief details

Sustainable development has emerged as one of the 21st Century most important concepts. The establishment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals has been designed to drive progress towards a sustainable future exploring the interrelated, complex and intertwined issues that contemporary society faces.

Yet sustainable development remains an ambiguous and inherently contested concept.  We invite expressions of interest for PhD research that will explore discourses, narratives and the policy and practical implementation of sustainable development. The research will explore the salience of sustainable development in the context of your chosen research area.

You will have the freedom to develop a research proposal, with your supervisor that could address any aspect of sustainable development on a cross sectoral basis.  You will also be able to apply multiple methodological approaches with innovation and experimentation in your approach being encouraged.

Strategic alignment

Projects deriving from this brief are expected to sit within the Research & Knowledge Exchange strategy and the following department.

Department Cornwall Business School

All successful research degree project proposals must emphasise a clear alignment between the project idea and our Research & Knowledge Exchange strategy.
