Third year Press & Editorial Photography student, Will Dax, went on assignment for Getty Images in December to cover Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson when they were in Cornwall just before the General Election.

Will's work appeared globally as a result and Getty were incredibly impressed with his work.

We spoke with Will about his success...

How did it feel to see your image in the global news?

I was amazed to have my images appreciated and validated on a national and international scale. It was a great surprise.

How did you get involved with Getty Images?

Getting images needed a photographer and Gretchen, my course leader, recommended me for the job as I really want to become press photographer. Getting a call from one of the picture editors asking me to photograph the two most important people of the election campaign was a big honour.

What were the key things you've learned on your course that helped you achieve the great images?

The main thing the course has taught me is to always be proactive and gain contacts wherever possible. Knowing what makes a good story and most importantly how to create a unique image to stand out from the rest.

Why did you choose to study at Falmouth?

I chose to study at Falmouth because they offered one of the only Press & Editorial Photography courses in the country and the lecturers have great industry experience and current contacts. The photography department has amazing equipment and facilities that allow me to compete with professional photographers.

What is next for you?

After university I want to continue doing press photography and to work for an agency like Getty Images would be a dream come true.
