2021 BA Popular Music graduate Eva Gadd has been signed by Blue Adventure Records less than two years since leaving Falmouth University’s Academy of Music & Theatre Arts. We asked her about life at Falmouth, what her music industry journey has been like so far and what advice she has for aspiring musicians/artists.

Tell us more about signing to Blue Adventure Records and your new track Breathing

I’ve had a manager for music (Nick Faber) since my second year of uni who really helped me with advice and support after I finished my course. He introduced me to Blue Lab Beats’ manager and from then on, I got to write and record a few tracks with Blue Lab Beats in their studio in London. In February 2022 I was told they’d like me to be one of the first signings to NK-OK's record label Blue Adventure Records and release some of the tracks we’d worked on. This has been such an exciting opportunity and I’ve just released my first single under the label called Breathing.

The song has racked up 30,000 streams on Spotify, which is a crazy experience as I hadn’t released any music for over a year. It’s had radio play from Jazz FM and got onto Spotify’s New Music Friday UK playlist (which was definitely a ‘pinch me’ moment!) as well as Fresh Finds UK.

I’ve always wanted to be an artist so signing the record deal with Blue Adventure Records, and getting the opportunity to write and release this song with Blue Lab Beats, has made me believe that this could be a viable career path for me.

The sea and the beauty of Cornwall also did wonders for my creativity. The atmosphere and the people – at the University and in the wider community – were so creative. I loved being part of that and it always inspired me.

How do you think your course helped you to get to where you are now?

The degree was the first time I properly started to write music. With the focus the course gave me, I wanted to write more and more and found myself getting good at it! It taught me what is needed to become an artist; everything from aesthetics, individualism, the legal side of the industry and how to become a confident, professional performer.

Studying at Falmouth was really engaging because we explored so many different avenues of music, which gave me an idea of all the opportunities that could be open to me after uni. The course and my lecturers were so supportive, and I found myself being pushed to become my best creative self and follow through with whatever I wanted to do – there was so much freedom in that regard.

The sea and the beauty of Cornwall also did wonders for my creativity. The atmosphere and the people – at the University and in the wider community – were so creative. I loved being part of that and it always inspired me.

What advice would you give to students looking to enter the music industry?

The biggest piece of advice I’ve received is to do something, whether big or small, every day to get you to your big lifetime goal. For me this felt hard, especially as I was working a full-time job and fitting in music after work. But it's so important to start working on what you want to do like it’s a job. Also, networking and taking any music opportunity that’s come my way has allowed me to meet new people and you never know what will come out of it!
