Photography Senior Lecturer Michelle Sank will see her latest project come to an end next month, when the work will be showcased in a new photography book - My.Self.

Michelle has created a photographic portrait of young people in the Black Country who are forming their identities and presenting a sense of who they are through their clothes, make-up, hairstyles and gender.

Michelle explained: "The project was commissioned by Multistory. My remit was to document the diversity of young people living in the area - what it means to be a young person in today's society as well as living in the Black Country. I worked across the cultural divide to cover all aspects of the social strata there.

The subjects were photographed in their bedrooms so that the objects and decoration within became metaphors for their individuality and their cultural contexts."

The book will be launched at an event at Sandwell College in West Bromwich on Thursday 8 November, 4pm to 6pm.
