Journalism Courses to Pilot BBC Gender Equality Project
16 April 2019

Falmouth has joined the BBC's 50:50 project, which aims to get an equal split of male and female representation across its news and current affairs programmes.
The project was launched last May when the BBC started monitoring the gender split across its programmes and sites.
Falmouth has now joined the BBC as a partner institution, alongside London Business School and Harvard, to collect further data to effect change.
Journalism Lecturer Kevin Bishop explained: "This is a great chance for students to participate in an innovative scheme that is at the heart of what the BBC is trying to do to address gender imbalance on air."
Journalism students will start to monitor the data behind their journalism during their news days, asking the bigger questions about gender representation within the media. The statistics will be shared with the BBC for further analysing.
