Falmouth illustration graduate, Johnny Paton, is celebrating the success of his design agency, Kingdom & Sparrow, after it reached an impressive third place in the World Brand Design Society (WBDS) global rankings. It has been labelled as the number one agency in the UK for the fourth consecutive year, and has received several awards since its founding in 2012.

Specialising in brand design for food, drink, and lifestyle products, the agency is regularly recognised for its dedication to creating excellent consumer and corporate design.

When asked about this latest success, Johnny told us: “It’s a monumental achievement for our team and a reflection of our creativity, dedication, and the passion we bring to every brief.”

This news follows Kingdom & Sparrow’s achievement of B Corp status in 2023, recognising their commitment to creating an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

Based in Falmouth, the agency’s clients have included everything from London’s first B Corp brewery, Small Beer, to the UK’s number one probiotic brand Bio-Kult. Over the last decade Kingdom & Sparrow have built an impressive clientele, refreshing branding and modernising the look and feel of products for a wide variety of companies.

When asked about how his time as an illustration student at Falmouth inspired the founding of Kingdom & Sparrow, Johnny explained: “The idea of creating artwork for purpose was very much something I learnt from my illustration degree. Consulting and collaborating with clients were skills that were introduced to me on my course, as well as the exploration and experimentation with different media and image making techniques.”

Reflecting on how he brought those learnings to the design agency, he added: “When I set up Kingdom & Sparrow, I was keen to establish an environment where we encourage a comradery and team spirit that comes with creating artwork together. Being able to give feedback and critique each other's work is something that I've continued within my agency setting and we feel it enhances our design process and creates stronger bodies of work.”
