From planning seasonal events at the Eden Project to taking on The Voice Bulgaria, our creative community knows no bounds. Here are the latest offerings from our inspiring staff, graduates and students.

Graduate presents innovative climate journalism solution to Eden Project

BA Journalism and Creative Writing graduate Nadia Leigh-Hewitson presented her Reporting Earth project, The Big Climate Map, at the Eden Project’s Festival of Discovery.

Nadia plans to create an interactive map of planet earth, sharing location-specific international climate journalism from a variety of sources. She hopes to create a platform to show the full picture of the climate crisis, debunk climate misinformation, and uplift an anxious audience through a balance of hard news and solution-focused features.

Check out Photography lecturer’s new children’s book Croc o’clock

Associate professor for Marine & Natural History Photography Dr Huw Lewis-Jones has released a children’s book just in time for the festive season! 

Croc o’clock  is a bright, bold and bonkers reimagining of the familiar festive song, The Twelve Days of Christmas, starring a very hungry crocodile.

Stuffed: A first person shooter game that you can play with your niece

Waving Bear Studio, an indie games startup from Falmouth University’s Venture Studio, Launchpad, has released its first game Stuffed on Steam.

Stuffed takes place in the dreams of a little girl, Ellie. Players take on the role of Ellie’s teddy bears, defending her from endless waves of nightmares including sinister gnomes, fanged rubber ducks, menacing robots and eerie shadow creatures. At the players disposal is a wide range of unique DIY weapons, ranging from machine guns made from skateboards to shotguns made of wrapping paper and explosives made from popcorn!

Graduate collaborates with critically acclaimed artist

BA (Hons) Creative Music Technology graduate Olof Melander has collaborated with Moor Mother on their latest release Black Encyclopedia of the Air. The album blends jazz with hip-hop, with Olof supplying a speckled soundscape of free jazz, electronica and hip hop for the Philadelphia based artist to dive into her poetic explorations.

Popular Music graduate makes waves in The Voice of Bulgaria

Congratulations to BA (Hons) Popular Music graduate Gabriela Koleva, who made it through to the knockout stages of The Voice of Bulgaria!

Gabriela’s journey may have now ended, but we’re so proud of this sensational performance, which was more than enough to beat out her rival and put her into the knockout phase of the competition.

Graphic Design graduate creates a business for good

Check out our sixth episode of Ones to Watch, featuring BA Graphic Design graduate Aurelie Tack, a creative and entrepreneurial force for good. 

Aurelie talked to us about how she fell in love with graphic design, her one-woman business Tackle Design and how she co-founded Emerging Creatives for Good to empower emerging creatives to collaborate with charities.

Lecturer receives prestigious literary prize

A massive congratulations to lecturer Wyl Menmuir, who has received the Roger Deakin Award from the Society of Authors for his upcoming non-fiction release The Draw of the Sea.

Wyl’s book will be out in 2022 – barring any more crow related disasters.

Students throw Winter Solstice event at the Eden Project

On Tuesday 7 December, second year Sustainable Festival Management students will be in the driving seat at one of Cornwall’s biggest tourist attractions as they run a specially curated event at the Eden Project.  

The event is to be held in the Mediterranean Biome between 12:30-14:30 and will be accessible free of charge to anybody attending Eden on the day. The event is focused on showcasing the history of Winter Solstice through a number of artful performances and interactive activities.
