Embracing your biggest fear, with award-winning designer Astrid Stavro
21 May 2024
We were thrilled to welcome the award-winning, internationally renowned, London-based designer Astrid Stavro as a guest lecturer to BA(Hons) Graphic Design.
As guest speaker, to a packed auditorium of students and staff, Astrid shared in-depth and personal reflections on her graphic design practice and explored key aspects of her process and how she approaches projects and clients.
Astrid also led a brilliant workshop for final year students exploring fear and creative risk. For these students - who are all close to completing their studies and are considering their future creative opportunities - the workshop provided a discursive, conversational session, orientated around supporting their next steps. Starting with their own experiences and perceptions of fear, Astrid proposed the idea that “your biggest fear can be your biggest asset”.
It was a truly inspirational experience that provided our students with personal and real-world insights from one of the leading design practitioners in the industry.
A huge thanks to Astrid for her wisdom and time, to the students involved, and to Nick Raven for arranging the opportunity. Thanks also to GF Smith for providing the paper for the promotional posters and to Alice Brown & Betsan Tudor for the designs.
