Huge congratulations are in order for two Creative Advertising BA alumni – Hugh Kendall and George Orton – for picking up not one, not two, but THREE awards at the Creative Circle Awards 2024, including Most Promising Creative Team.

Alongside the crown for Most Promising Creative Team, the duo won a Gold award for Best Interactive Out of Home Campaign and a Silver award for Best Writing for Online for their Gen Z focused ad campaign: Takis Drop Code.

George and Hugh are part of the advertising team at Publicis; a global advertising agency supporting some of the biggest brands on the planet. Their award-winning campaign Takis Drop Code – produced for supermarket Aldi x Takis – scored big with judges at Creative Circle, as well as coverage from industry magazines and websites covering the innovative campaign.

Speaking to us, George and Hugh said, "‘Drop Codes’ is a testament to all the folks at Publicis London.

"In a project where quite literally everything went wrong (including the van containing our posters setting fire), we pushed through it together, and we’re so happy to see the hard work being rewarded."

About the campaign

After years of it being nearly impossible to get your hands on a bag of Takis in the UK, Gen Z’s favourite spicy snack finally dropped in a UK supermarket: Aldi.

On 17 September 2023, a limited amount of Takis were stocked as an Aldi Special Buy. However, the only way to make sure you were at the front of the queue was to solve the drop codes Takis fly-postered all over the UK.

The lead creative was a cryptic message hidden in the song titles of a Spotify playlist that could only be accessed by scanning the code on the fly posters. Those who noticed the scannable poster and cracked the playlist code would read a message about the product drop, and be first in line.
