Call for Audiovisual Collaborations | October 2024 and April 2025
18 October 2024
As part of a year-long research project Liveness, Location and Immersion in Audiovisual Performance at Falmouth University, Dr Simon Waite invites expressions of interest from musicians and visual artists seeking to collaborate on immersive audiovisual projects.
These collaborations may take the form of conversations about audiovisual practices, exploration of immersive technologies (such as 3D audio, multiple video screens and creative coding environments) or working together to create work for live performance, fixed playback or installation.
Collaborations may be with electronic musicians working with visuals, experimental filmmakers, installation artists and traditional musicians looking to explore digital practices or visual artists working with sound and music. The main idea linking these practices is that both sound and image are essential, inseparable elements of the creative process.
There are two sets of dates for these collaborations to take place:
Initial, exploratory conversations about potential projects. These may take place at The Academy of Music and Theatre Arts on the Penryn campus or online. These may result in the creation of audiovisual material for further collaborative development during the April residency.
Developing work for immersive environments at The Academy of Music and Theatre Arts. Following on from the initial conversations in October, collaborators will bring material to develop in multichannel audio and multiscreen video. Following this residency, there will be an opportunity to present work at the Audiovisual Electronics Symposium, held at the Fish Factory on 24 May 2025.
On both sets of dates, collaborators will be able to receive technical, artistic and practice-research support and collaborative input from Dr Waite, whose expertise includes live audiovisual performance using software such as Ableton Live, Max and Touch Designer.
