Art Graduates Curate Digital Exhibition
29 July 2020
Nina Royle, Senior Painting Technician at Falmouth School of Art and a group of 12 third year painting students, have teamed up to produce a virtual exhibition, 'Inter Alia', on the Painters South West Instagram.
The exhibition questions what it means to translate painting (a generally physical, sensual and material practice) into a virtual space.
Connected to this exhibition, Nina invited Dan Howard-Birt, painter and Director at Kingsgate Project Space in London, to stage three online conversations with some of the students involved.
The conversations, centred around the titles Touch, Transmission and Present Space, delved deep into both the student work and their thoughts on paintings relationship to the digital and online.
The conversations have been edited into three articles, which can now be read in full on the CAST online studio pages, where Nina's studio is based.
In Nina's own words:
The project, which happened both during and as a result of lockdown, is a fascinating and touching document of the students’ personal experiences navigating this moment and its effect on their futures."
The students that participated in the online conversations include: Anna Calleja, Livia Gravil, Elizabeth Langley, Danae Patsalou, Sophie Perkins, Natasha Sadier and Catalina Maria Ungureanu.
