Why you should attend

Going to university is an exciting challenge but it also involves coping with a lot of changes.

For many students moving from a structured environment at home, school or college, to a new environment where you are not sure what to expect or what your new routine will look like, can be unnerving.

This may also be the first time you have lived independently, adjusting to that at the same time as a new environment and routine can be overwhelming. For disabled and neurodiverse students, these challenges can be more extensive, so good preparation and organisation are important.

Accessibility would like to support students through this transition to help you prepare for university and adapt to the changes this brings.

What to expect

During the Transition days there will be a range of information sessions and guided independent activities, designed to give you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the campus facilities, university systems and explore the local area. You will also have the opportunity to meet your Accessibility Advisor and members of staff from different support teams.

Having some of this information already to hand before term starts will give you less to process at the start of term when adapting to your new environment.

This could help you to feel more prepared to start university life. We would also encourage you to think about what independent living skills you may need to learn or improve on (they may not be the ones you think!)
