School of Film & Television: Research & Knowledge Exchange

“We are mavericks, rebels, amateurs.
We are experts and we are excellent.”

The School of Film & Television at Falmouth University has a collaborative, collegiate and compassionate Research & Knowledge Exchange culture. We value curiosity, practice, community and knowledge as the principles that guide our scholarship and pedagogy, research and knowledge exchange.

Research focus

We champion our staff to find interesting and rewarding connections between these areas of our work. As we grow, we seek to deepen our roots in Kernow screen culture through shared practice, expertise and encouragement, collaboration and historical analysis. We are expanding our history of innovative creative pedagogy and making the most of our indie mindset to further cultivate lasting, meaningful modes of collaboration with professional screen storytellers, for the benefit of students, graduates, academic staff, craft and technical staff, library and professional staff, and culture in our Celtic nation and beyond.

We are inclusive of practitioner-scholars from all disciplines who contribute to our areas of excellence regardless of whether their work is screen-based. We are interested in vernacular filmmaking, the ethics of screen practice historically, the impact of technology, contemporarily and in the future, addressing inequality in storytelling and changing historical bias regards access to professional and cultural spaces and experiences.
