School of Architecture, Design & Interiors: Research & Knowledge Exchange

SADI students

The School of Architecture, Design, and Interiors (SADI) aspires to lead in practice-based design innovation, addressing global challenges through human-centred design, sustainable projects, and creative applications of advanced digital tools. Researchers work in partnership and foster collaboration with organisations and academia to deliver impact for a resilient and innovative future.

Research focus

The School of Architecture, Design, and Interiors engages in practice-based design research to respond to environmental, societal, and technological challenges. Three research and knowledge themes provide focus and collaboration for staff expertise from both academia and professional practice.

The Design Innovation for Health and Wellbeing theme focuses on using human-centred design methods to improve products, services, and environments in collaboration with healthcare professionals and networks.

The Sustainable Futures theme aims to create projects addressing climate change, guided by the UN's sustainable development goals, particularly focusing on rural and coastal environments to create healthy people, places, and planet.

The Digital Frontiers theme explores the creative potential of digital tools, including AI and advanced manufacturing, to augment design processes, create and develop Digital Twins, and investigate technology as a co-creator in design.
