Emily Alden
Associate Lecturer in Dance & Choreography
Emily Alden is a dancer and choreographer who works across dance and theatre, live and digital formats and communities. Originally from the Midlands, Emily trained in Contemporary Dance at Bretton Hall College of Arts in Yorkshire and is now based in Cornwall.
Emily has worked extensively as a dancer in touring and site based productions with companies including WildWorks, Rosemary Lee, Cscape, Kneehigh & Simon Birch working under the direction of Emma Rice, Yael Flexer & Agnieszka Blonksa. Her dance films created with filmmaker Brett Harvey (Kneehigh, o-region, Lucasfilm) have been screened worldwide. In 2016 she was awarded Arts Council and British Council funding for an independent development project to work across the UK and mainland Europe with Theo Clinkard, Maxine Doyle and train in the movement language Gaga. She is currently creating new interdisciplinary performance work In My Head exploring everyday sound and hearing loss.
Emily has been an Associate Lecturer at Falmouth University since 2010, a part-time member of staff on the Dance and Choreography course for two of those years from 2014 to 2016 with roles including module management, student supervision, assessment and extensive delivery of practical modules and contemporary technique classes across all year groups.

Immersive Imaginations Workshop Series. An evolving series of workshops, classes & intensives led by Emily as part of her physical research as dancer & choreographer. A testing ground for Emily’s choreographic ideas exploring the interplay between set & improvised movement structures, working physically with quality & sensation, incorporating writing techniques.

Co-producer of the Freefall Summer Intensive, annually from 2010 - 2016. Established the partnership relationship between Freefall and Falmouth University.

Established and ran the Freefall FUEL summer project (2013/14) working with young dancers from across Cornwall at AMATA as part of the University's outreach programme of activities.

Lead artist establishing a dance and art platform On The Wire (2012/13). Bringing together a film screening of international dance for camera works in conjunction with Cornwall Film Festival, a live platform of dance work and exhibition of art work and photography including commissioning Steve Tanner to create the photo series The Smoke House, supported by FEAST.
