06 May 2022
For the second year in a row, Falmouth University's engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals Teach In (SDG Teach In) has been recognised by Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS).
This year, Falmouth has been named a Top 10 Institution for ‘Students Reached’ in the SDG Teach In, a national campaign run by SOS. The campaign aims to place the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals at the heart of education.
SOS reports that 134 universities, colleges and schools from across the world took part in the 2022 teach in. Falmouth University almost tripled the number of academics engaging in the Teach In to reach an estimated 27% of our students.
Falmouth’s involvement in the campaign reflects the University’s approach to sustainability. The University has been embedding sustainability issues into its curriculum since declaring a climate and ecological emergency in June 2019.
We are putting environmental issues at the forefront of our learning and teaching to support our students to become future global innovators.
Falmouth is committed to putting sustainability issues at the centre of its learning and teaching. The University is currently working to embed sustainable learning outcomes meaningfully and effectively across all courses, and is collaborating with academics to design key sustainability principles and practices for assignments, modules, and challenges.
A suite of sustainability focussed courses has also been developed, including: Sustainable Festival Management BA(Hons), Sustainable Product Design BA(Hons), Sustainable Tourism Management BA(Hons), Sustainable Business MSc (Online) and Sustainable Fashion MA (Online).
Academics have helped to further embed sustainability into the curriculum by working with partners including The Eden Project, A Greener Future and Attitude is Everything.
Adrian Bossey, Head of Business & Experience Design at the Cornwall Business School and the University's Cross Institutional Sustainability Champion, says, “At Falmouth we are putting environmental issues at the forefront of our learning and teaching to support our students to become future global innovators, leaders and entrepreneurs.”
