Our Masterclasses give you an opportunity to hear from our academic experts on a wide range of hot industry topics, while getting a flavour of our online master’s degrees.

In this MA Photography (Online) Masterclass, Colin Pantall will explore Collaboration and Professional Locations.

This Masterclass will examine the reasons why so many photographers are using collaboration in their practice, how they are using it, and the creative language that is used. During the Masterclass, we will question ideas of consent, authorship, and creative expression. We will look at how collaboration can be used to tell more nuanced stories and how images can be used with text, drawing, and collage. We will also examine the professional locations of these collaborations, the photobooks and other outcomes that are produced along the way. This will highlight how collaboration and creativity are combining in some of the most though-provoking and engaging photographers working today.

Colin Pantall is a writer and photographer based in Bath and is the Module Leader for PHO740 Collaboration and Professional Locations.
His immersive photography is led by his immediate physical and domestic environments, and include his projects 3 Valleys, Sofa Portraits, All Quiet on the Home Front, and My German Family Album, projects that look at his own family and surroundings from personal, environmental, and historical perspectives. He has written for publications including Magnum Photos, World Press Photo, the Far Eastern Economic Review, the British Journal of Photography, Foam, Aperture, Source, and Photomonitor. He was wrote and edited Magnum China with Zheng Ziyu and has contributed to other books including The European History of Photography, Claude and Lilly and Birds of a Feather by Vincen Beeckman.
