If you subscribe to receive information from Falmouth University, this privacy notice provides information on how we use your personal data.
FAQs
You have agreed to receive information or communications from the University, for example, about University events, projects or news. When we asked you to agree to receive these communications, we explained what you were subscribing to and we directed you to this Privacy Notice which explains how we use your data.
The personal data we process is that which you provide to us. If you consent to receive these communications, we will retain and use only the information which is necessary to communicate with you. This may include:
- Your name and contact details (including your address, email address and telephone number(s)
- Any other details specifically provided through our forms
- Details of University events you have attended (if relevant)
- If you are from a low income household
- If anyone from your family has been to university
- If you are from a military family
We will also keep records of the communications we send you and any contact between you and the University in relation to the communication or mailing list you have.
The communications we send to you will be tailored to any preferences you have expressed.
The University will process your personal data to provide you with the communications you have subscribed to:
- To identify students eligible for our Raising Aspirations programme as part of our commitment to Widening Participation
- To fulfil and monitor our legal responsibilities, for example, under equalities, immigration and public safety legislation
- To improve the efficacy of our advertising activities, if you consent to your personal information being used for marketing purposes.
We will not use your data for any other purpose.
We process your personal information for the purposes above based on your consent. You will be able to withdraw consent and unsubscribe to the communication you receive at any point by following the instruction provided on each communication we send you.

Your information will be used throughout the University with only those staff who need to process your personal data for the purposes set out above.
Your personal data is shared as is necessary, on a considered and confidential basis, with several external organisations which assist with processing your information. Where this is the case, we will have formal agreements in place with any third party organisation and they will be acting in accordance with our instructions and will not process your data for any other purposes other than what we have asked them to do. Sometimes your personal data is processed by these organisations outside the European Economic Area (usually because they use cloud systems provided by companies such as Microsoft or Google). If this is the case then we always ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to ensure the confidentiality and security of your personal data.
If you have opted into Marketing, we will process your data to improve the efficacy of our advertising activities. By agreeing to opt-in to Marketing with us, you agree to us securely sharing your data with third party advertisers who will use your data to improve the targeting of our digital advertisements. You can opt out of Marketing at any time. In addition you can also opt out of advertising targeting via the below:
- Opt out of Google Analytics
- Opt out of LinkedIn advertising
- Change your Facebook settings to control the ads you are shown
- Opt-out of cookie-based advertisements via your online choices and switch off behavioural advertising from a large number of companies
Except as we have explained above, we will not publish or disclose any personal data about you to other external enquirers or organisations unless you have asked us to or have consented to it, or unless it is in your vital interests to do so (e.g. in an emergency situation).

- The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) - if we should add this under 'Relevant Higher Education bodies'
- Their current school, academy or college - if we should add this under 'Relevant Higher Education bodies'
We will continue to keep your data until you withdraw your consent or unsubscribe from receiving a specific communication. We will delete your details if we become aware that your contact details are out of date or incorrect.
HEAT records are kept until the individual is 30, or if they go to university 15 years after graduation. This is because it's about impact of progression, so we may work with, and record details, of any student from Year 7 upwards to identify if/when they enrol in HE or their progression after graduation.
